Large quarto (12 x 8-3/4 in.). No. 232 of the limited edition of 600 numbered copies. Green-gold Genji silk cloud-pattern covers with original decorative printed spine label, top edges roughly trimmed, others uncut. Collates 196 pp.: [6], xvi, 1-165, [1], 2, [6]. Printed in Caslon Old Face on handmade laid paper watermarked with the Guild of Handicraft floral device and 1888. Illustrated with seven of Cellini's diagrams within the text and 10 full-page photogravure illustrations and one engraving (all with tissue guards) superbly printed on fine heavy wove. Some foxing on the engraved plates. A very good copy overall, beautifully bound, strong, bright and fine internally, incisively printed by compositors and pressmen whom Ashbee had hired from the recently closed Kelmscott Press. The first book printed at the Essex House Press.
