Copy number 10, printed for André Turrettini, of 20 copies (of the whole edition of 250) with the extra suite of the 51 lithographs on chine, signed by Erni and Gonin on the justification page; illustrated with 51 original lithographs by Erni (13 full-page, 38 in the text); [4], 140 pp., 1 p., [3], on Rives wove paper, loose as issued, 13-5/8 x 10-1/4 in. (344 x 262 mm), in the original lithographed wrapper folders, quarter-vellum board chemise and slipcase; a complete copy, minor chips and scuffs to slipcase, else fine throughout.
Erni is famed for his delightful and sympathetic illustrations of animals, birds and fishes. In addition to this Buffon, he illustrated livres de luxe of Renard's Histoires Naturelles and La Fontaine's Fables.
