Copy number 90 of the regular issue of 199 (of the whole edition of 250),
but with an extra suite of six proofs of three of the lithographs on chine,
signed by Erni and Gonin on the justification page; illustrated with 29 original
full-page color lithographs by Erni; [4], 207 pp., 1 p., [3], on Rives wove
paper, loose as issued, 13 x 9-7/8 in. (331 x 250 mm), in the original lithographed
wrapper folders, quarter-vellum board chemise and slipcase; a complete copy,
minor chips and scuffs to slipcase, else fine throughout.
Erni is famed for his delightful and sympathetic illustrations of animals,
birds and fishes. In addition to this Renard, he illustrated livres de
luxe of Buffon's Histoires Naturelles and La Fontaine's Fables.
